Non-operative care
Carpal tunnel syndrome is usually initially treated by immobilizing the wrist in a splint to minimize or stop pressure on the nerves. If this doesn’t work, patients are sometimes prescribed anti-inflammatory medications or cortisone injections in the wrist to reduce swelling.
Other conservative or non-surgical treatment for CTS may include rest and physical therapy. Many patients show considerable improvement with conservative, non-surgical care. If symptoms persist or worsen and significantly affect the patient's lifestyle, then minimally invasive surgical approaches to carpal tunnel may be discussed with the patient.
